Will I lose my deposit paid with debit card?

I paid a £100 deposit for an airline ticket with my debit card, but have changed my mind about travelling. The agent is threatening forfeiture of the deposit.

Is he right, and what can i do?

Yes, if that is what the sales agreement said. The deposit is to lock you into the agreement. Loss of the deposit compensates the agent for his time and effort and any other expenses he may have incurred by booking the ticket for you. If he manages to sell the tickets on he might refund some money ex gratia but he doesn't have to.

Under some contracts cancellation of bookings made close to the date of departure could mean forfeiture of the whole ticket price.
