What types of loan are out there?
There are basically two types of loan: unsecured and secured.
Unsecured loan
This will be your first choice, because there are no strings attached.
You sign up for the agreement, and make the payments until the end of
the agreed term – usually no longer than 10 years – when the loan will
be paid off. The rate will be fixed at the outset, so you will know
exactly how much you will need to find each month to cover the interest
and capital repayments.

Bank of England figures for March show that consumer credit fell to
£1.2 billion in March, from £2.3 billion in February, as the value of
personal loans and overdrafts dropped by more than half.

1. Make sure you are on the electoral roll
One of the main items of a credit check will be confirmation of your address. As well as a check on the voters’ register the check will examine your postcode, to show the sort of area you live in and how long you have been at the address. You will also be asked if you own the property, as home ownership makes you a better risk.
