Insurance cover for airline failure Print E-mail
14 September 2008

Which travel insurance policies cover passengers for scheduled airline failure? In the wake of the failure of XL, Futura, Silverjet and several other airlines, leaving passengers stranded abroad, and other airlines forecast to go bust in the next 12 months, having SAFI (scheduled airline failure insurance) is going to be increasingly important for travellers' peace of mind when booking their holiday if they are booking flights themselves, rather than as part of a package holiday.

Polices that do include SAFI include:

  • Post Office
  • STA Travel
  • easyjet4insurance
  • Karma Insurance
  • ABTAsure

Other ways you can protect yourself :

  • Take flights as part of a package holiday - which will give you protection via ATOL (Air Travel Operators Licensing).
  • Book with a credit card, which covers you for purchases costing more than £100 and less than £30,000.
  • Book with a Visa debt card (as opposed to Maestro).
