Abbey Zero card makes comeback Print E-mail
11 May 2009

The Abbey Zero credit card, which does not make a charge for using it abroad, returns today, after a couple of months’ absence – which is good news for holidaymakers. Other cards charge up to 3% for use abroad, which can add substantially to holiday bills.

Annie Shaw of CashQuestions.com welcomes the move, saying: “Now that Nationwide has brought in charges on its credit cards for overseas use outside Europe from this month it is great news for consumers that they can still get a card that makes no charge for use abroad.

“The good news about this card is that it is far from being a ‘one-trick pony’, which some seemingly attractive cards are – in other words you take them out because of one feature but don’t really want to use them for anything else.

“The Abbey Zero card pips the Post Office card – the only other card that is now completely charge-free for use abroad – because it not only offers an introductory 0% rate on balance transfers (subject to a fairly standard 3% fee) for 12 months, and an introductory 0% rate on purchases for three months, but also amazingly charges no fee for cash advances.

It’s APR at 18.9% is a little higher than the Post Office’s typical rate, but Abbey branches and call centres should prepare for a siege.”
