Tesco is targeting holiday motorists with its latest offer. It says it will cut the cost of car breakdown cover by 30% for people who apply online. The offer is available for those driving in the UK as well as abroad.

Tesco offers three levels of cover: Standard Care, Extra Care and Total Care. It claims that each one provides the essentials of roadside assistance and a tow to a local garage. However, customers can choose to add extra cover, such as a hire car, or transport to their home or original destination in the UK for them, their vehicle and up to seven others.

The discount is also available for breakdown cover on the continent with Tesco Euro Care, giving customers peace of mind from £31.50 per trip.

"With the August bank holiday approaching, now is a great time for families to arrange breakdown cover to ensure their trips go according to plan," said Allan Burns, Tesco Head of General Insurance. "The 30% online discount will also help them save money which can be put towards other enjoyable outings."

With Tesco Car Breakdown Cover, it is the vehicle that is covered, not the driver, so anyone driving the car with the policy holder's permission is covered in the event of a breakdown. The reduced prices apply to new customers in their first year only.
